Q Where's the Water Part A: Where's the Water? It's easy to take water for granted. In most parts of the United States, every time you want to take shower, water a lawn, or fill a swimming pool, clean, fresh water runs out of the tap. In countries with substantial and stable infrastructure, freshwater is so available that many people don't realize how critical this resource is. In this lab, you'll analyze data and interpret graphs and charts that show the distribution of the world's water. You'll develop a sense of where the world's water is, as well as where it's going. o Take a look at a visualization of estimated annual water consumption (Links to an external site.) for territories around the world. Examine the cartogram and read the caption. Open the Population Map for comparison with the Water Use map and answer the following questions. A-1 Which countries are the largest consumers of water? (3 points) A-2 How is this map different than a "normal" display of geographic data? (2 points) A-3 Why would it be important to compare this visualization to a similar one that shows population? (2 points) o Three-quarters of Earth is covered with water, but most of it is not available for human use. In general, salty water and frozen water (ice) aren't useable unless large amounts of energy are used to transform them into fresh, liquid water.
